Our congregation is part of the Christian Reformed denomination and as such, there are certain core beliefs that tie us to other congregations across the globe. Below is a brief overview of what we believe as a Christian Reformed congregation. Please visit the CRC web-site if you would like a more in-depth look into the denominations beliefs and position statements concerning issues facing our culture today.
The most basic and over-arching beliefs we hold are -
- We are followers of Jesus Christ who was the Son of God
- God has called us together to be a people who belong to him and live for him
- The Bible is the authoritative Word of God and that, through the Holy Spirit, God speaks to us.
The Christian Reformed denomination has adopted three creeds, the Apostles' Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed. The Apostles' Creed is written below and shows many of the truths we believe.
I believe in God,
the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit
and born of the virigin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended to heaven
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic* church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
